trama: a collaboration
Building on the relationship with Trama Textiles that was cultivated while working on the sculpture SPEAK, we developed a mutual desire to present the sheer artistry of the weavers. 28 weavers from 17 different villages and 5 regions contributed their own individual squares to this collaboraive piece. Each piece embodies the life, color, symbols and heritage of the Mayan people as well as the unique artistry of the weaver herself.
From a culture that has endured colonization and genocide, this collaborative tapestry is a symbolic testament to the heritage, resilience, spirituality, and resistence of the Mayan people The weavers’ artwork is both firmly rooted in history, as well as clearly focused on the future for their progeny. All proceeds from the sale of this work will go to the Trama Education Fund.
